When you hear "lockout" you may picture yourself standing in the cold outside of your locked house without your key. You are "locked out" without a way to get in.
The Lockout-Tagout safety procedure aboard the TS Kennedy’s safeguards cadets and crew from the unexpected powering or startup of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy when service or maintenance activities are taking place. The hazardous energy is "locked out" so that repairs can be made safely.
This sign on the Main Deck reminds cadets and crew members of the importance of Lockout-Tagout.
You'll find this selection from the TS Kennedy's Video Vault very informative.
WARNING: The Engine Room is loud. You will have to listen carefully to hear the cadet talking.
