Good morning, Followers -
When your family is getting ready to host a birthday party or a holiday celebration, do you offer to do a few extra chores? When your class is preparing to welcome guests for an Open House or a performance, do you work with your teacher and classmates to get the classroom clean and organized? Something very similar is happening aboard the TS Kennedy this week.
On Saturday evening in Tampa, we will welcome special guests to the TS Kennedy for a reception on the Helo Deck. Joining us will be alumni, generous supporters of the Academy, and current and former faculty and staff members. Parents of our Florida cadets plan to attend as well.
Cadets and crew members are scrubbing, scraping, and painting - determined to make sure that our old ship looks as clean and welcoming as possible. Chartwells is getting ready to work their culinary magic once again. Every year, our guests rave about the food.
Back on the campus of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the Advancement Office has spent months planning and organizing this reception. They will be here to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Earlier on Saturday, families, teachers, guidance counselors, and students from Florida will join us for a tour of the ship. They will have an opportunity to speak to cadets and crew members. The Admissions Department back on campus has been very busy scheduling these visits. If you live in Florida, and wish to participate, please click on the link below. I will ask that it is included with this log.
Tonight, the cadets and crew will take a break from all of their hard work. The Student Government Association and the Commandant’s Office will hold a "Fight Night" on the Helo Deck. Don’t worry! No one will get hurt. Cadets can volunteer to face off with an opponent in an inflatable arena. The cadets will be jousting, not boxing. Although I will stop by to cheer on the friendly competitions, I will not be participating.
It was a nice surprise to receive colorful drawings from some of our youngest followers; kindergarten students from Dighton Elementary School in Dighton, Massachusetts. I have enjoyed showing their work off to crew members and cadets who stop by my office. I will ask that their class photo and a few individual drawings be posted with this log.
Stay warm! Thanks for supporting our cadets.
