Today was another productive day out in the field for Group B. All the cadets worked hard and diligently on all sites. Today wrapped up the first week down in Florida. It has been a successful week of work for all the cadets. They truly have filled the boots of Group A on all the worksites.
Group B was again divided into smaller groups to head to a total of four sites. Two teams returned to the two main homes in progress. The cadets at both these sites continued to work on the siding and are moving rapidly. Both homes will be completely sided next week.
Another team was sent back to Wildwood. These cadets finished painting one of the homes from yesterday and fully painted a second home. The group also had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Officer Dave Perry of the Wildwood Police Department. During lunch he spoke with the cadets about his career in law enforcement and the challenges he faces in his community. The cadets were appreciative the officer took the time out of his day to speak with them.
The final group returned to the Umatilla Veterans’ Village. The crew cleared more of the brush around the pond, completing yesterday’s work.
To cap off the day of hard labor the cadets were treated to a cookout by the faculty and rates. The rates cooked burgers, hot dogs, and sausages for Group B. The cadets also feasted on homemade mac and cheese, made by Professor Coonan and 1/C Sullivan.
Following the festivities, the team enjoyed their free time and rested up for tomorrow’s trip to “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
