Today is our last day in Costa Rica. As sad as the fact is we still managed to have a full day of fun and education.
First we went to Irazu, one of several active volcanoes in Costa Rica. It was absolutely amazing! We learned a little about geology, including that at certain temperatures and depending on content of the lava pumice can form small crystals. We also learned of the highest elevation of forest in Costa Rica, known as Paramo! It has smaller leaves with thicker, waxier exteriors. They feel almost fake!
After that we had lunch, atop the mountains surrounding the volcanoes.
Next we moved into San Jose where we learned about the up and coming electric trains in Costa Rica. The general manager of the project Mario gave us a presentation on the process the project has been going through. They plan to break ground this year.
Next we took a cultural walk through the city on our way back to the hotel.
Tonight we took or final quiz of the trip on all we've learned so far. After that we had dinner in San Jose.
And tomorrow we will say good bye to the beautiful Costa Rica!
Pura Vida from Costa Rica!
